The review you are currently reading is on Ascendant. It is 2nd of the Rampant series. Ascendant was written by Diana Peterfreund. I would classify this book as Teen. I gave it a 4 star rating. I will explain later in this review.
Astriod is now 16 and is still stuck at the Cloisters, unicorn hunters camp. Even though she is a great, unstoppable unicorn hunter, that doesn't mean that all her problems are solved. Her boyfriend, Giovanni, has left Rome and the other hunters powers are leaving their possesion. She is given the chance to leave the Cloisters to work with some unicorns, and some people searching for the remedy. Following her dream of being a scientist she willingly excepts. But Astriod soon starts questioning everything, her love, her friends, and her future. Where she is a truly good unicorn hunter, but could Astroid give hunting up? Can Astroid deal with losing everything she ever had? What would she give for the life she always wanted?
Firstly, I must say I thought this couldn't get any better, but it did. Wow. Acsendant really showed how Astriod has grown since her first experience with killer unicorns. I thought Astriod was in a relationship stuck with glue, but I was wrong, again.
Overall Ascendant is a really good book and a great compliment to Rampant. I totally recommend reading both. I love this series, and I bet you all will too.

Rampant by Diana Peterfreund
The review you are currently reading is on Rampant. It is 1st of the Rampant series. Rampant was written by Diana Peterfreund. I would classify this book as Teen. I gave it a 5 star rating. I will explain later in this review.
When Astroid encounters a unicorn in the forest just outside the Myersons house she, surprisingly (according to her mothers stories) does not get hurt. Her boyfriend, Brant, gets touched by the creatures horn and immediatly starts to die. After being called by Astriod her mother appered with the secret remedy, to heal Brant. After being healed Brant breakes it with Astroid and mysteriously runs away. Due to the unicorn not touching her, Astroid finds out that she was born a hunter. Her mother praises that, so she sends her of to a unicorn hunting camp in Rome where she can train properly, so she can save innocent people from unicorn attacks. There she meets up with a few other unicorn hunters, but even with all her powers Astroid is not sure she can take on such a big mission. Danger lurks in the corners of the complicatedly woven tale.
I adored this book mainly because it was stuffed with action and, of course, unicorns. This book is great, and Astroid is a funny, strong, unforgettable character. There is only one question I ask: Could this series get any more amazing?
Overall this was an amazing book. I mean, just the idea of killer unicorns is breathtaking, and so creative. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes action, romance, and fantastical creatures. It is seriously one of the best books I have ever read.
