The review you are currently reading is on Uglies. It is 1st of the Uglies series. Uglies was written by Scottt Westerfield. I would classify this book as Teen. I gave it a 3 star rating. I will explain later in this review. This book is probably one of the best of the Uglies series. It is about a girl named Tally who is living in a futuristic world. This is a world where how we look now is considered 'ugly'. So when you turn 16 you get surgery and become a 'pretty', which means you have perfect skin, a perfect body and you are completely beautiful. Tally is 15 and is just about to turn 16 when she meets Shay. Shay tells Tally all about the outside world and how people are escaping the surgery and living normally. At first Shay is determined on becoming a 'pretty' so she does nothing about it. Then, Shay leaves Tally behind and searches for "The Smoke", where people are surviving in the wild, just to stay ugly, but Tally doesn't think she is ok. Shay gets Tally caught up in a big mess and Tally ends up going to the smoke too. Instead of doing her job and then becoming pretty, she tries to stay there. The question is will she be satisfitied with this life and have the society forgotten about them. I would really recommend reading this book if you like action filled, dramatic books.
The reason I gave this book a 3 star rating because there was not much description, and Tally did not get very far in the book. Also, there was not very much going on at the begining of the book, and it was rather slow. I did like way it was action filled and Tally was also always making big decisions that will affect her life.
Overall this was an ok book. I would say this is one of the best series because of how Tally changes throughout the books. I would reccommend reading uglies, because the book that comes after it is so much better and very enjoyable.
